Kermit the Green Juice

Yesterday I was feeling hungry but not wanting to actually make something, so I headed over to a vegan bakery and cafe called Wildflour Bakery.  It’s located on the Pawtucket/Providence line near Blackstone Boulevard.

I ordered 2 juices, one for lunch and the other for Saturday’s breakfast since I was supposed to be out for the day.  Lunch was the Alkalizer with plenty of ginger for some zip and I enjoyed it.

This morning’s treat was this very very green Kermit juice.  No fruit at all and very, hmmm, what’s a good word?  Green and grassy!  Not as tasty as I would have liked but healthy for sure with kale, spinach, celery, cucumber and can’t remember what else.  I got it down but will not order that one again.

Will try a smoothie next time.

Clean is going well and released another pound or so, for a grand total so far of 3.3 pounds.  I’m not starving, and even though I have to think a bit more about what I should be eating, my body is liking it so far.

Day One of Clean

I have finished the recommended minimum amount of days for the elimination diet and ready to start this 21 days of being Clean.  I hope to release plenty of toxins from my body and of course, would love to shed a few pounds too!  My goal is 15 pounds.

During the elimination phase I have already shed 2 pounds.  Not weighing myself every day, but probably every 2-3 days to see if I am getting progress.  Of course I will also gauge from the way my clothes fit.

Nime Chow

Nime Chow

Tonight was a challenge for me since I went out for dinner to one of my favorite Asian restaurants, Apsara. But I kept it on the program by ordering Nime Chow with shrimp and then Stir Fried Lort (rice) noodles with seafood.  Rice is allowed on the program, but not wheat.

Weighing in again tomorrow and will see where I’m at!

Started Easing into the Clean Program

Today was my first day of a completely caffeine-free day and still doing fine, so far.  I am sipping some Coconut Oolong tea sweetened with liquid stevia.

Had a protein Greenberry Shakeology shake for breakfast made with almond milk and also had a Chocolate Shakeology shake for dinner, along with a tablespoon of almond butter.  Usually add peanut butter, but due to fungus on peanuts (per Dr. Junger and the Clean book) they are not in the program.  I will miss my peanut butter.

Lunch was my main meal and I ate Indian food at Rasoi, on Hope Street in Pawtucket, RI.  Delicious!  I had Shrimp Saag and a little rice, although I remembered after no white rice, so will keep that in mind.  I passed on the garlic naan and still felt I ate plenty to fill me without feeling stuffed.

Another day or so of easing in and then I will start the plan in full force.

Starting The Clean Program

Clean by Dr. Alejandro Junger

Clean by Dr. Alejandro Junger

I have decided to experiment with myself to find if any specific foods are bothering my digestive system,  I am experiencing allergies for the first time in my life and starting thinking it may be a food I am eating.

I found Clean by Dr. Alejandro Junger and will begin the Elimination Diet part of the program for 3-4 days beginning tomorrow.  Then I will do the 21 Days of Clean to, well, clean out my system and detox.

Then when I begin adding foods back in I will hopefully find the annoying culprit and eliminate that particular food from my everyday diet.  And the jump start with weight loss will also be a plus.

I will be posting every day for the full 21 days once I begin them on Friday. Easing into the plan for the first few days.  Off to the grocery store for some good clean food!

Saturday at the Farmers Market

I took both of my children with me this morning to the Farmer’s Market in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.  This Winter Market runs until 1:00 pm and we eventually got ourselves motivated enough to get there around 11:30 am.  We are not morning people.  Thank goodness it runs a bit later.

It wasn’t as crowded today and I was able to walk more easily and check out some of the goodies on display.  I ended up with collard greens, turnip, sweet potatoes, garlic, pea greens, and some mixed salad greens.

My son was happy with his crepe filled with egg, spinach and cheddar cheese from the ladies at The Creperie who are usually there creating some delicious treats.  I also scored some falafel and yogurt dip which were quite tasty too.

I would have taken a picture of the crepe too, but he ate it too quickly!

Going again next week for more fresh greens and to see what else is available.

My FitnessPal App

Anyone reading my blog knows I like gadgets, and I’m trying My FitnessPal for at least a week to check it out.

I have been working out steady following my ChaLEAN Extreme program but I am not shedding the pounds.  I have lost some inches, but the numbers are still important to me, and at my weight, they should be moving downward.

I have NEVER been a fan of calorie counting, but it truly may be what I need to see if the “healthy” foods I’m eating actually are as healthy as I think.  So the test began today.

The calorie goal for me is 1210 calories based on my age, height, weight, and activity level, which is still sedentary.  As much as I’d like to say I’m more active, it’s not true.  Lying to myself is something I’m just not going to do.  So I made sure to add some exercise in to increase my allowable calorie count for the day.  I added 330 calories extra through exercise.  It was probably a bit more but my darn Mio watch was just not cooperating with me and I couldn’t get an accurate calorie burn by wearing it.  I followed the numbers listed in the database.

Already learned I need to move my butt much more and should be hitting at least a minimum of 500 extra calories through exercise daily.  Even if I don’t use all of them up in food, they are there as my cushion.  And most of my food choices were good, but bagels are not such a good choice, especially cooked in butter…Fats were a bit too high today.

I plan on working this app for at least 7 days.  If I like it and get used to logging then I may extend the time frame.  Already learned something new today for sure!

My First 30 Days Up Tomorrow

ChaLEAN Extreme

ChaLEAN Extreme

My first 30 days are up tomorrow and I am anxious to see how I’ve done.  I have been working hard at staying on track with my workout and eating goals, but I am worried that my hard work will not show on the scale.  Or on the measuring tape.  I already did lose a few inches, but the pounds have been so stubborn and I haven’t lost an inch since I started.  I actually gained a pound or two!

I will also have my daughter take new pictures of me in the various poses I did for the first set of pictures.  I hate looking at them, but without proof in a picture it is really hard to see progress.  Pictures have always been difficult for me since I don’t feel comfortable with having my picture taken, but perhaps it’s because I know I don’t look my best.  My hair is a mess, my double chin is showing, or I have acne on my chin.  There’s usually something I can find fault with.

But I am so over feeling I have to be perfect in every shot.  I am who I am, take me or leave me.  What you see is what you get.  I am a work in progress and working towards a better me.  Not perfect, but better. (At least take the double chin and acne away…I can deal with a bad hair day!)
