My FitnessPal App

Anyone reading my blog knows I like gadgets, and I’m trying My FitnessPal for at least a week to check it out.

I have been working out steady following my ChaLEAN Extreme program but I am not shedding the pounds.  I have lost some inches, but the numbers are still important to me, and at my weight, they should be moving downward.

I have NEVER been a fan of calorie counting, but it truly may be what I need to see if the “healthy” foods I’m eating actually are as healthy as I think.  So the test began today.

The calorie goal for me is 1210 calories based on my age, height, weight, and activity level, which is still sedentary.  As much as I’d like to say I’m more active, it’s not true.  Lying to myself is something I’m just not going to do.  So I made sure to add some exercise in to increase my allowable calorie count for the day.  I added 330 calories extra through exercise.  It was probably a bit more but my darn Mio watch was just not cooperating with me and I couldn’t get an accurate calorie burn by wearing it.  I followed the numbers listed in the database.

Already learned I need to move my butt much more and should be hitting at least a minimum of 500 extra calories through exercise daily.  Even if I don’t use all of them up in food, they are there as my cushion.  And most of my food choices were good, but bagels are not such a good choice, especially cooked in butter…Fats were a bit too high today.

I plan on working this app for at least 7 days.  If I like it and get used to logging then I may extend the time frame.  Already learned something new today for sure!

My Mio Watch

My Mio Motiva Petite

My Mio Motiva Petite

I have had this Mio Motiva Petite for more than a year or two, but when I took it out recently it just died on me.  So time for a new watch battery.

I popped the battery in (size 2032) and she was as good as new.  I did have to reset all of my personal info into it again, but it was time for an update anyway.

Used the watch for my workout tonight, which was Chalene Johnson’s ChaLEAN Extreme Burn It Off! and Recharge.  The two had a combined total time of almost 51 minutes and I burned over 500 calories!  That’s quite a workout.

I still would love, love, love a Nike Fuel Band, but for now the few dollars it cost for the new battery is about all I am willing to spend at this time.  So the Mio is just fine for now.

The pounds have been stubborn to come off, so any help I can give myself in understanding my calorie burn is a definite plus.

Checking Out New Devices

I am a device kind of girl.  And today I checked out the Polar FT4 and the Nike Fuel Band.  I want both, but have to make up my mind.

I like to have a device that tells me how hard I’m working and something that tracks on the computer.  I like the pedometer type devices, like the Fitbit I currently have, and the Striiv pedometer.  I am using both of these right now.  But they’re lacking the added oomph I’m looking for.

So I checked out both the Polar FT4 which has been mentioned by a few folks I follow online, and the Nike Fuel band.  The Polar retails for about $65-75 and the Nike is more like $150.

The Nike is a bracelet which hopefully won’t fall off and end up in the toilet, which has happened to me in the past with pedometers that attach to your waistband.  It can be worn all the time and tracks your activity and comes with an interactive site, community, and game.

And the Polar is a watch and comes with a chest strap that you wear when exercising to track your heartbeat.  This is supposed to help you learn how to best push yourself for maximum effectiveness in your workouts.  I am assuming you don’t wear the chest strap all the time, so does the Polar track activity without the strap?  This I need to find out.

If that is the case then I will probably save up for the Nike Fuel band because I want to know my caloric expenditure for the day, in addition to when I’m exercising.

Tell me your thoughts please!

Trying to Stay Healthy

Sometimes I forget how difficult it is to stay healthy.  Eating right, lots of fruit and vegetables, and making sure I get enough exercise is a full time job in itself.  Then add in taking care of a job and house and kids, and you get the picture.  It’s no wonder people let things slide by the wayside.

My Juice

My Juice

Today I ate healthy, and made sure to get a juice in with plenty of fruit and just a bit of carrots thrown in for good measure.  I ate my leftover Thai green curry soup chock full of green veggies and also a small amount of Singapore rice vermicelli noodles with chicken and more sliced veggies.  Good on that score.

But I didn’t exercise today.  I just didn’t feel like it.  Let me correct that, I didn’t feel too good and my ankle was hurting and stiff all day and I couldn’t muster up the gumption to work out.  So I adapted my rest day from Saturday to today and will continue where I left off tomorrow bright and early.

A rest day is perfectly fine, but when that day stretches into a lengthy amount of time, then that’s where the problems set it.  Promise!  Back on track tomorrow.

Scheduling My Workouts

I am having a problem creating a schedule and sticking to it.  The few times I actually take the effort to create a schedule, something comes along to mess it up.  Or I just don’t get up early enough to stick to it.

I am currently on Day 4/90 of my Challenge.  I am proud to say I have not missed a workout yet, but am getting them done late.  And I mean like 11:00pm late.

This is screwing with my plan to get to bed earlier.  So I am yet again trying to use my planner to put in the time of my workout and will make sure I am done before 9:00pm so I can take a relaxing shower and then get to bed.

Tonight’s schedule is to workout at 8:00pm.

Anyone else have issues with scheduling???

My New 90 Day Challenge

ChaLEAN Extreme

ChaLEAN Extreme

I am ready to restart a new challenge and have a goal of losing 30 pounds in the next 90 days!  There, I said it so now I have to work my butt off for it to come true.

I am now a Beachbody Coach and will be starting my Chalean Extreme program today along with my Brazil Butt Lift.  Working through these programs will allow me to become familiar with them, and of course help me slim down!

Starting my coaching at a bigger size allows me to completely understand the issues new exercisers face, along with all their challenges.  I am willing to do my very best, which may not be every move every time, but I’ll try and that’s all I can ask of myself.

So if you’re interested in beginning an exercise program and would like a personal coach to help cheer you along in your progress, please send me a message or check out my website.

Measurements have been faithfully logged (and thank goodness I’m not looking at them for another month!) and I will weigh in weekly and post on the blog.  Please join me in sweating and eating my way to a healthier me!

Weekly Updates

I finally managed to get to Target and buy a new scale. This time I avoided one that reads body fat. Got a Weight Watchers model that will do the job just fine.  And why is it whenever I want to take a picture the dog follows me?

Jasper and the new scale

Jasper and the new scale

I am thankfully down another pound this week to 212.5. Losing a bit slowly, but the scale is heading in the proper direction. Time to find a way to move fast enough to work up a sweat that doesn’t involve my feet. Need to burn more calories so I can shed a bit more quickly.  Might try the stationary bike as long as I can get a bit more flexion in my right foot.

Of course the handweights are a good start, but that seems to be my problem with them.  Starting.  Ugh!  They are just in the other room and I am heading in there now to pump some iron!

Ok, I admit I wanted to nap on it too, but I did grab the handweights and used them in my room.
